Today I arrived in Europe. It still seems so surreal to me right now that I actually made it here traveling by myself. Of course, I asked for a great deal of help from people. I met a couple in St. Louis who was also traveling to Paris and I befriended them. It turned out they were from Sri Lanka and they were visiting their daughter who is going to school here at Webster. The couple completely took me under their wing and I will be forever grateful for that because without them I would probably still be running around the Minneapolis airport looking for my flight.
Although my trip was nerve-racking, walking out of the doors of the Florence Airport was worth it all. You can read about a place a million times, you can look at pictures of those places, but NOTHING compares to seeing those things for the first time. It was a dream come true.
After I unpacked my bags, I left to hike up to the San Miniato al Monte. From this church you can see the entire city of Florence. It was absolutely breathtaking. There is a very interesting story behind this church. Saint Minias was beheaded but instead of dying, picked up his head and carried it until he fell. The church was built in that place. One of the pictures is of the inside of the church. (The other is off of a bridge in Florence-I just thought it was a beautiful view.)
I know this first post is pretty boring but I promise to be posting more interesting stuff soon.
